Omron, a Japanese company, will become the newest foreign manufacturer to establish operations in the area when it opens its first medical device facility in Tamil Nadu, according to two local government officials with firsthand information on Monday.

Omron will build equipment at the plant, including blood pressure monitors, and invest approximately 1.3 billion Indian rupees.

The Japanese firm produces electrical equipment that ranges from industrial switches to blood pressure monitors, and it will be the most recent foreign manufacturer to set up shop in Tamil Nadu or increase production there. In recent months, Tamil Nadu has also attracted investments from Hyundai Motor, Nike shoemaker Pou Chen, and Ola Electric, which SoftBank Group backs.

Following the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions in China and the topping out of inflation, mainly in the United States and Europe, Omron predicted last month that sales of its cardiovascular equipment would gradually increase. Additionally, it stated that it would concentrate on "capturing demand in India," where sales of blood pressure monitors are predicted to surge in the upcoming years due to an aging population and lifestyle changes.

According to Omrons website, its medical equipment is currently produced in China, Vietnam, and Japan.

Tamil Nadu state government said on Monday that six other Japanese industries had committed to investing 8.19 billion rupees, as revealed by the state officials after visiting Japan. The government sources further state that more investments were anticipated in the medical technology sector in the future.
